Milford May Day

I spent an enjoyable day yesterday in my village of Milford & Makeney photographing the Milford May Day Celebrations. It’s a proper May Day with a maypole, music and traditional dance, plus a few mermaids (the theme for the May Day was ‘The Sea’, hence the pirates you can also see in the pictures). There can’t be many Derbyshire villages left who celebrate May Day, even if it isn’t…er, actually on May Day itself. There can’t be many villages either who have their own calendar. I always make up a montage of the May Day Celebrations for that calendar – and what you see could be the montage I will use.
